History & Details of the Temple

The year 1939 marked the establishment of the first Shirdi Sai Baba institution in Tamil Nadu, founded by Sn. H.H.B.V. Narasimha Swamji and his associates. This institution, initially named Sri Sai Baba, served as a gathering place for devotees in Coimbatore.

A remarkable incident occurred in 1943 during a bhajans session at the institution. A luminous cobra, adorned with divine marks, appeared before the picture of Shirdi Sai Baba. Despite the presence of the snake, devotees remained calm and continued their worship. The cobra remained motionless for 17 hours, attracting a large crowd of onlookers.

The following day, when a photographer arrived to capture the cobra, it miraculously moved from beneath the piles of flowers and posed for the photo, reinforcing the belief that it was a divine manifestation of Shirdi Sai Baba.

In response to the devotees’ prayers, the cobra eventually departed, disappearing into the nearby bushes. The spot where the cobra vanished is now considered a sacred ground. From that day forward, Shirdi Sai Baba in Coimbatore became known as Sri Naga Sai.

The temple’s unique marble statue of Sri Naga Sai was installed in 1961 by Sri Sathya Sai Baba himself. Another significant artifact is the sacred stick used by Shirdi Sai Baba, which was brought from Shirdi and is now used to bless devotees visiting the temple.
